Health matter rules St Kilda veteran Tim Membrey out of AFL elimination final against GWS

St Kilda have been forced into a late change ahead of Saturday’s elimination final against the GWS Giants.

Veteran forward Tim Membrey has been withdrawn due to a “personal health matter”.

The club didn’t provide any more details on what happened, but said he was “receiving appropriate care and treatment.”

He is replaced in the selected side by Anthony Caminiti.

Caminiti was not one of the four listed emergencies, but the AFL won’t fine the club due to the exceptional circumstances.

“Tim’s health and wellbeing is our primary concern and the club asks that Tim and the Membrey family’s privacy is respected at this time,” the club said in a statement.

“The club will not be making any further comment as it focuses on the match later today.”

Injury has restricted the 29-year-old to just seven senior games this year, but there’s no doubting the Saints are a better side when he is playing.

Returning forward Max King will spearhead the attack, along with inexperienced pair Cooper Sharman and Caminiti.

Veteran midfielder Seb Ross also returned to the side with Liam Stocker and Jack Hayes going out of the side.

Stocker and Ryan Byrnes are among the emergencies with one of those two likely to be the starting sub.

The forward went into defence to help Carlton win their first final since 2013.
